IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Sept 12, IRNA -- Tehran Prosecutor of the Public and Revolution Court Abbas Jafari-Dolatabadi said on Sunday that the documents about three American spies indicated that they were not on an excursion in Iran.
Speaking to reporters, he said the three American spies are subject to espionage charges but they have not been convicted yet. The documents and the instruments they possess indicated that they are trained people and had come to Iraq or Iran not on an excursion.
Tehran’s prosecution has issued indictment for the American spies and their documents will be delivered to the court in due time, he said.
It is quite natural that in espionage cases, the culprits never confess to their charges, he underlined.
The Tehran prosecutor said one of the three Americans held for espionage will be released on bail.
Abbas Ja'fari Dolatabadi said Sarah Shourd will be released on bail of dlrs 5,00,000 to be posted with the Judiciary.
The prosecutor said that Sarah Shourd suffers from health complications and the judge has decided to release her on bail but two other spies will remain in custody.
Iran’s judiciary is to carry out its duties independently, he said.
