Bushehr NPP self-controlled in nature - official
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Bushehr, Aug 20, IRNA -- The official in charge of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, Mahmoud Jaafari, says the power plant is self-controlled in its kind.
“The power plant has been built based on latest safety standards and is self-controlled one in nature,” Jaafari told IRNA here on Friday.
Jaafari said the method used in the power plant’s construction will minimize the chance of any incident there.
He said there will be ten powered by minus six chance of incident occurrence in Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.
He added that this means that possibility of any incident in the power plant, whose life span is about 40 years, is very low.
The official said the power plant is even fixed in a way that no incident, like the one taking place in other power plants like Chernobyl on April 6, 1986, will happen there.
Even if the incidents, predicted to take place in Bushehr NPP, break out, it will be capable of bringing them under its control, he noted.
Jafari recently said that the main tests and inspections of the power plant have been successfully carried out during the last six months.
Double-checks, "installations and montage stage is completed and we are about to launch the power plant," Jafari was quoted as saying.
In July, Sergei Kiriyenko, head of Russia's state-run atomic energy corporation Rosatom, said that preparations for the launch of Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant are proceeding as scheduled and the plant's first stage will be finished late August.
Iran handed over the Bushehr project, started by German firm Siemens in the 1970s, to Russia in 1995. The launch of project has been postponed repeatedly in recent years.
