FM spokesman urges Vienna Group to hold session on fuel swap

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Aug 17, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said on Tuesday that the Vienna Group meeting on fuel swap must be held as soon as possible.

Talking to reporters during his weekly press briefing, he voiced Tehran’s readiness for talks with the Vienna Group as soon as the date and venue of the meeting are announced.

He reiterated that a meeting based on the Tehran Declaration can lead to confidence building between the two sides.

As to Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, he said the project is going on according to the schedule.

Asked about the Zionist regime’s military exercises launched with the financial assistance of the US Congress, he said the Tel Aviv regime is trying to take an opportunity to attack regional states.

Any conflict would create tension throughout the region, he said, adding that all regional countries are ready to counter any kind of tension.

On activities of the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), Mehman-Parast said the terrorist group is a threat to the regional security. The MKO members have also endangered the peace and tranquility of the Iraqi people, he added.

Denouncing the anti-Iran statements by several US officials, he said Washington’s move to support new sanctions against the Iranian nation is to exert more pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Mehman-Parast advised the US authorities to refrain from such hostile attitudes and respect rights of the Iranian nation.

He reiterated that the Iranian people will not abandon their inalienable rights and will not surrender to the illegitimate requests of foreign powers.
