IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, August 10, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran has not requested negotiations with United States.

Mottaki made the remarks in a joint press conference with his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong in Tehran.

Due to wrong polices adopted by the US administration, they are currently entangled with various problems in the region mainly in the past decade which brought them humiliating defeats, he said.

Mottaki said that the only way out of this dead-end is for the United States to amend their wrong approaches on regional developments.

On talks with Vienna group, Mottaki said, “We hope there would be a constructive and transparent approach away from propaganda on implementing Tehran Declaration.”

Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano on behalf of Vienna group and the Islamic Republic of Iran has the authority to arrange such talks; he said adding that principally, these negotiations are to be held in Vienna.

The Tehran Declaration deals with IAEA proposal on fuel swap with Iran. According to the proposal the western suppliers of 20 percent fuel will deliver fuel for Tehran medical research reactor built in 1970s by the United States in Iran in return for 3.5 percent enriched uranium Iran has produced for power plants.
