Supreme Leader: Iran-Afghanistan-Tajikistan interests lie in tight cooperation
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Aug 6, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said here Thursday that Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan are the three countries with very close bonds, whose interests lie in tight cooperation and implementation of the formerly reached agreements.
Ayatollah Khamenei made the remark in a meeting with Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Afghan and Tajik counterparts, Hamed Karzai and Imamoli Rakhmon here on Thursday.
The Ayatollah said progress, security and development of both Afghanistan and Tajikistan are in Iran’s favor as Iran’s progress and security is absolutely in favor of regional states.
"There are some who are against cooperation between these three countries," the Supreme Leader said, adding that regional states should counter such threats with "vigilance."
The paramount leader said Iran is ready to put its expertise in scientific and technological fields at the disposal of Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
The Supreme Leader called on regional states to stand united against enemy plots to cause division.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the problems of the Afghan people stem from foreign military presence.
"Foreigners who came to Afghanistan with the slogan of establishing security and democracy are now targeting civilians and their presence has nothing but atrocity and corruption for the people of Afghanistan," the Supreme Leader said.
"World powers only pursue their own interests and their never-ending greed in the region, but today the situation of the region and the capabilities of these powers are extremely different from the past."
