Iranian FM warns US president of contradictory claims

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Aug 6, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here on Thursday ruled out the US President Barack Obama’s “contradictory” claims of the US readiness for talks with Iran, saying that Americans will not be able to take any action in the long run on the basis of contradictions.

In an interview with the TV channel two on Thursday, Mottaki said, “We should try to find the kind of strategies that are based on regional relations in order to solve Afghan problems.”

One of the regional formulas on table is the one adapted from Iraq case, said the minister, adding that the meeting of Iraq neighbors, due to be attended by seven countries, is on agenda. Today, he said, there were talks at Tehran trilateral session on the issue.

“If Americans are ready to hold talks on Afghan issue, our stance is then clear. If they are right, they should not throw any obstacle on the way of the said initiative.”

On Zionist regime’s fresh aggression on Lebanon, he said the measures taken
by the Zionist regime are to some extent natural. “Subtracting terror, occupation, aggression and suppression from the regime, there will remain nothing. The gestures are parts and parcels of the regime’s nature,” he added.

Asked on Iran’s letter to Vienna Group, he said Russian and the US State Department spokesman have thus far expressed their view, and the French too have expressed their attitude through certain ways that are ready for talks, said Mottaki adding that the UN Chief Yokion Amano too has announced to take necessary measures for the issue soon.

Asked whether Brazil and Turkey too will take part in the Iran-Vienna Group talks, Mottaki said at any rate, the two countries are part of Tehran Document.

Moreover, the talks will revolve around fuel exchange, which is based on Tehran Agreement and Turkey and Brazil are part of it.
