Defense minister calls for sustainable security in region

Tehran, July 17, IRNA -- Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics Brigadier-General Ahmad Vahidi said on Saturday that capabilities of the counties in the region should be mobilized to help resolve the crises in the region through peaceful means.
Vahidi made the remarks in a meeting with his Armenian Counterpart Seiran Oganyan.
The Armenian defense minister and his entourage arrived in Tehran on Saturday upon official invitation by the Iranian counterpart.
The two sides reviewed expansion of mutual cooperation on regional and international issues and called for benefiting from peaceful means to thwart the regional crises.
"Expansion of mutual cooperation and relations will help properly deal with regional crises," said the Iranian defense minister.
Vahidi said that issues such as organized crime and drug trafficking are various aspects of regional insecurity which require collective action by the regional countries.
He expressed the hope that the current visit of Armenian defense minister would help expand mutual cooperation and restore peace and stability in the region.
The Armenian defense minister, for his part, expressed satisfaction over his visit to Iran and said Armenia attaches special attention to expansion of ties and cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Sincere ties between Iran and Armenia are good help for promotion of peace and stability in the region, he said.
It requires a collective contribution to help resolve regional problems, underlined the Armenian defense minister.
“We believe that the regional conflicts, differences or crises will be resolved through peaceful means.”
He expressed regret over tragic incident in Zahedan and strongly condemned it saying that it requires collective action by countries in the region to help eradicate terrorism.
