Mottaki: Iran replies to Vienna group in writing

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, July 15, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Thursday that Iran has already given oral answers to questions posed by Vienna group on the country’s peaceful nuclear activities and is to provide them with detailed answers in writing as well.

He made the remarks in a joint press conference with his visiting Afghan counterpart Zalmai Rassoul in Tehran on Thursday.

Members of Vienna group ( US, Russia, France) have voiced readiness to welcome Brazil and Turkey in the next round of talks, he said.

Iran and Afghanistan share commonalities and enjoy very good and friendly relations in many fields, Mottaki said, adding that Iran-Afghanistan Joint Economic Commission meeting is to be held in Tehran during September-October this year.

The Islamic Republic of Iran over the past 31 years has always backed Afghanistan and has spared no efforts to safeguard the country’s interests, Mottaki said.

Iran has always played a leading role in helping resolve Afghan problems in regional and international conferences, he said, adding that the country as well as the region are now hit by extremism which requires collective contribution of international organizations.

On return of Iranian scientist abducted by US intelligent services some 14 months ago, he said this issue is on the agenda of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the details of which will be made known in due course.

“We are willing to find out the reasons behind his abduction by US intelligent service,” he said.

Referring to last night's meeting with Turkish foreign ministe in Lisbon, Portugal, he said during the meeting the two sides reviewed latest developments on Tehran Declaration with Turkey declaring that it will never pay attention to the request made by certain countries to distance itself from Tehran Declaration.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkey and Brazil have signed Tehran Declaration and the no votes given by Turkey and Brazil to UNSC resolution proved their support and commitment to Tehran Declaration, Mottaki said.
