Sanctions no longer an effective weapon against Iranians

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, July 15, IRNA -- Russia’s readiness for oil cooperation with Iran has been interpreted as the first step towards foiling Resolution 1929 as well as the one-sided sanctions by the US.

Most of Western circles admit that the weapon of sanctions against the Iranian nation has already failed. The Western media networks, which have been preparing various scenarios about the effects of sanctions on Iran and disseminated them through the whole world for the past three weeks, now carry reports on how the individual profits of countries and the interests of the private sector companies in the world together with the economic and market frameworks are making it impossible to ignore highly profitable trades with Iran.

The Tuesday visit of Iranian Oil Minister Masoud Mir-Kazemi to Russia and signing of a number of oil contracts with Moscow has been widely covered by economic and media circles.

Most international media and press have described the move as an important step towards a speedy failure of America’s latest one-sided actions against Iran.

France’s “AFP” news agency noted in a report that “Russia has voiced its readiness to continue oil cooperation with Iran.

It said that Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko has made it clear that despite the sanctions against Iran, Moscow was keen to continue its oil cooperation with the country.

The Russian energy minister noted that in spite of the US sanctions against Iran which aim at sabotaging the trend of supplying petrol to Iran, the Russian companies were ready to supply the petrol needed by Iran.

Talking in a joint press conference with Mir-Kazemi, he also noted that economic interests out-did Moscow-Washington relations, stressing that export of oil products to Iran was a quite possible task.

The Iranian oil minister, too, stressed that sanctions against the Iranian nation were absolutely inefficient because they failed to affect the economic development and advancement of the country in any possible manner.

AFP further noted that many Russian companies have signed important contracts with Iran in the past few years.

The BBC TV channel, too, which never misses any opportunity to carry out its soft war projects, believed that signing of agreements with Russia clearly indicated the total collapse of the unilateral US actions against Iran.

On a Wednesday night program, it referred to the signing of “long-term” energy contracts between Iran and Russia, noting that Russia, despite having signed the UNSC resolution against Iran, has now pronounced that its vote in favor of the sanctions would not hinder the country from continuing its cooperation with Iran.

The European media circles, too, have been forced to admit in the past two days that in spite of energy sanctions declared against Iran by US President Barack Obama, commercial and energy cooperation by and with Iran were still going on unaffected by the UNSC resolutions.

“France 24” which is a European news channel focused on the Russia-Iran cooperation contracts, highlighting the fact that the Russian companies were thinking of their own commercial profits and were thus ready to supply Iran’s needs.

It said the interesting point about the whole story was that the leaders of some of Ereopean Union countries had already claimed that they would join Washington in exerting sanctions against Iran.

However, this is not the end of the story of confessing to inefficiency of sanctions against Iran on the part of Western circles after elapse of 20 days since the UNSC resolution against Iran.

Last week, Reuters carried a story on the effect of sanctions on Iranians.

The British news agency which not long ago claimed that the sanctions against Iran would be intelligent and would not affect the Iranian people, tried to trace social and economic suffering of Iranians resulting from sanctions in its report.

In parts of the report, Reuters cited stresses about traveling abroad as a major concern of the Iranian people but had to refer to the resistance of the nation against West’s sanctions, stressing that many in Iran backed the firm and strong anti-West positions of their leaders.

A lot of economic experts are of the opinion that sanctions could not affect the policies of world’s private sector companies who are willing to continue their highly profitable businesses with Iran.

They say the trend of trade affairs in the world is like a wild river which the US is not capable of confronting.

The experts point out that Iran is one of those few countries in the world which has a clear record of standing with its trade commitments and financal deadlines in the international arena and as such, trade opportunities with Iran are not to be easily missed.
