President says Iran wise enough to know nuclear weapons are useless

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, June 28, IRNA -- President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday that Iranians are wise enough to know that nuclear weapons are useless.

Responding to a reporter who asked the president's comment over recent claims made by the Central Intelligence Agency Director Leon Panetta that Iran is capable to manufacture two bombs, President Ahmadinejad said that Iranians are wise enough to know that the nuclear weapons are useless.

"The world people saw that US President Barack Obama threatened Iran with nuclear weapons. Such a threat brought shame on the United States. It indicated that the world public opinion hate the nuclear weapons and that such weapons are useless," President Ahmadinejad said.

Disarmament Is Iran's Preference

President Ahmadinejad said that Iran took part in International Conference on Non-Proliferation Treaty and Disarmament in New York and currently the Islamic Republic of Iran has given preference to international action to annihilate stockpiles of nuclear arms.

"We think those stockpiling nuclear weapons are stupid, because such weapons proved not working. We are concerned about safety of the American people vis-a-vis the dangers the stockpiles posed to them. A government which is unable to stop the oil leak on its water (the Gulf of Mexico), who can it handle if a safety threat occurs in the stockpiles of nuclear weapons," President Ahmadinejad said.
