Diplomat asks Lebanese govt. to probe into case of 4 kidnapped Iranians

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Beirut, June 25, IRNA -- Iran’s Ambassador to Beirut Ghazanfar Roknabadi on Friday called on Beirut to probe seriously into the case of four Iranians kidnapped in north Lebanon in 1982.

In a meeting with Lebanese Foreign Minister Ali Shami on Friday on the anniversary of the kidnapping of the Iranian nationals, Roknabadi raised the call, urging the Lebanese government to inform Iran of the fate of the group subsequently.

Submitting Iranian Foreign Minister Manoucher Mottaki’s message to Shami on Friday, Roknabadi reiterated that Lebanese government should pay serious attention to the issue.

During the invasion of Lebanon on July 4, 1982, four Iranian diplomats -- Ahmad Motevaselian, Seyed Mohsen Mousavi, Taghi Rastegar Moghadam and Kazem Akhavan -- were reportedly abducted by militiamen and Israeli forces at an inspection point for the Lebanese Forces in north Lebanon. No report is yet available on their fate.
