Spokesman lauds stands of Turkey, Brazil, Lebanon on SC resolution

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, June 10, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast on Thursday appreciated stands taken by Turkey, Brazil and Lebanon regarding the UN Security Council’s anti-Iran resolution.

The Security Council imposed a fourth round of sanctions against Iran on Wednesday.

The resolution passed with “no” votes from Turkey and Brazil, which argued that sanctions were the wrong approach to take with Tehran, and an abstention from Lebanon.

Mehman-Parast said the approach of the three countries is an indication of new developments at the international arena.

Independent and important countries such as Iran, Turkey, Brazil and several other states have paved the way for establishment of new atmosphere in the world, he said, adding that the new development is replacing the current status with the fair and respectful approaches.

He called on all independent states to support and welcome the new development so that the world nations would witness welfare.

By giving no votes to the new Security Council’s resolution, Turkey and Brazil reiterated that a nuclear fuel swap deal they inked with Iran last month created the opportunity for further diplomacy.

By inking the deal, they revived parts of a plan brokered by UN nuclear inspectors in October for Tehran to part with 1,200 kg of low enriched uranium in return for fuel rods for the Tehran research reactor.
