Iran optimistic about implementing tripartite agreement
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, May 18, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is quite optimistic about implementing provisions of the tripartite agreement signed by Iran, Turkey and Brazil on May 17.
Talking to reporters during his weekly press briefing, he said a constructive atmosphere will be created for further cooperation upon implementation of the trilateral agreement.
Mehmanparast dismissed as "immediate reaction to the agreement" by the western governments -- the US and Germany -- that the Tehran Declaration on fuel swap would not prevent further sanctions on Iran.
He said that the western governments were unaware of provisions of the agreement and that the reaction was immature.
He said such a reaction will prove to the world community that the preconditions to supply 20 percent fuel to Iran only aimed at depriving countries of their rights.
"In this case, those countries would be held accountable before the world community for ignoring their commitments envisaged by the international conventions."
The foreign ministry spokesman said the hasty reaction of some western countries to the agreement signed in Tehran was because they never expected such a breakthrough made by the Tehran Declaration in such a short time.
