President: UNSC lost reputation among nations

Tehran, May 17, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday that the UN Security Council has lost its credit among the world nations.

“The UN Security Council acts based on the post-World War II reactionary laws, losing its reputation and efficiency among the world nations,” said President Ahmadinejad in a speech which wrapped up one-day work of the 14th G15 summit.

President Ahmadinejad said some UN Security Council members still live in the climate of the past 65 years, expecting other governments and nations to follow them.

He said today, drastic changes in current world conditions and establishment of new systems have turned into general demand.

He added that the new systems need to be defined and organized based on the faith in the powerful and kind God.

He proposed formation of a consultative committee to hold regular meetings attended by foreign ministers to assess further convergence on different global and regional issues regarding current global conditions.

He also said reliance on extensive resources and potentials of the G15 is of utmost importance given the ongoing challenges facing global economy.

He urged the meeting to consider establishment of specialized industrial, agricultural, banking, energy and technological committees to investigate ways of promoting ties and cooperation in the areas and make necessary decisions for the purpose.

He said a common bank too should be established to work for exchange of goods with goods or with a basket of hard or local currencies of the member states and the like.

He then entrusted the next G15 presidency to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, hoping that the G15 would during Sri Lanka’s presidency take giant strides towards establishment of peace, justice and friendship worldwide.
