Iran says ground well-prepared for fuel swap agreement

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, May 15, IRNA -- Iran sees the ground well-prepared for an agreement on fuel swap, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Saturday.

Talking to IRNA prior to the Group 15 foreign ministers meeting in Tehran, he gave an upbeat assessment about the fuel swap agreement ushered in by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil.

Asked why the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will not attend the summit as a special guest, he said that he had pre-planned visit to other countries and he made no schedule to come to Tehran.

Referring to the Brazilian President Lula da Silva’s visit to Tehran, Mehmanparast said that he will take part at the event and reciprocate President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit last year.

Issues of mutual interest will be discussed during his Tehran visit, he noted.

He further noted that Iran’s nuclear issues including the fuel swap have earlier been reviewed with Turkey and Brazil so far.

“I think the same will also be discussed during President Lula da Silva’s stay in Tehran.”
