Lavrov: Moscow opposes US unilateral moves against Iran

Moscow, May 13, IRNA -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said here on Thursday that Moscow is severely opposed to the US unilateral measures to impose sanctions against Iran.

He further noted that Moscow believes that unilateral sanctions against Iran are illegal.

Lavrov also said that the US should not make a decision in this respect in the absence of the UN Security Council.

In his address to the Federation Council of the country, he also pointed out that the US considers the internal rules of the country superior to the international regulations.

“This is unacceptable,” he went on to say.

Nobody is allowed to replace international laws with their country’s internal laws, he said, adding that the Americans are not ready t o accept the reality.

Any decision on sanctions against Iran should be made in UNSC or else it will be unilateral and unacceptable, he said.
