Defense Minister lauds deterrent power of Iranian armed forces

Tehran, May 11, IRNA -- Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said on Tuesday that the current wargames dubbed as `Velayat 89’ displayed Iranian deterrent power.
He made the remarks in an exclusive interview with IRNA.
Elaborating on deterrent nature of Iranian defense capability, he said that enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran should forget pursuing adventurism in the region.
He said that the Iranian forces have successfully conducted the wargames and could attain their desired goals with reliance on home-made equipment.
"During the wargames the most advanced weapons such as land-to-sea missiles, sea- to-sea missiles, drones, telecommunications systems, the optic and electronic apparatus, home-made warships and speed boats and submarines successfully demonstrated capability of Iranian Navy."
He said that the message of Velayat 89 wargames is that the countries in the region are able to determine their own fate and others should avoid interfering in their internal affairs as the Islamic Republic of Iran and its neighbors are united with deep-rooted ties and relations.
“We hope to hold joint wargames with the neighboring countries in the near future,” he said.
"Such huge wargames urge the enemies to forget adventurism or masterminding any plots against Iran."
The Iranian Army has launched five-stage military exercises since last Wednesday which will end on May 12.
Different units of the Iranian Army displayed defensive and deterrent power of Navy in a vast area which included the Persian Gulf, the Oman Sea and northern Indian Ocean.
