"Fajr 5" rocket used during war game: Army commander

Zahedan, Sistan-Baluchestan Prov, May 10, IRNA - Commander of Army’s Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan announced Monday that “Fajr 5” rocket was used for the first time during the ongoing war games.
Talking to IRNA, he added that the domestically manufactured defensive rocket was used for the first time during the five-stage military exercise of ?Velayat 89’ which started last Wednesday and continues till May 12.
The ongoing military drill is an indication to the high potentials of the regional states for establishment of security in the Mideast region, the commander said.
Such moves also prove that the regional countries are able to provide regional security and there is no need to presence of foreign forces in the region, he added.
The ?Velayat 89’ war game delivered several messages, he said, adding that its first message was to the regional states in the area of establishment of peace, friendship and security in the Middle East.
The military exercise has also a message for arrogant powers and the enemy, telling them that the Iranian forces are in full readiness to defend the country’s territorial integrity, he added.
Various types of surface-to-surface, air-to-surface and surface-to-sea missiles were fired at the fourth phase of the `Velayat 89’ war games which started in Iranian southern waters Monday.
Different units of the Iranian Army displayed defensive and deterrent naval power in a vast area which included the Persian Gulf, Sea of Oman and the northern Indian Ocean regions.
