Iran has largest army in ME: Commander

Tehran, April 18, IRNA -- Commander of Army’s Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan has said that Iran had the biggest army in the Middle East region.
The commander made the remarks on the occasion of the National Army Day (April 18).
Speaking to IRNA, he said that the Iranian armed forces would keep on watching every move of the enemies in the region.
“We would never neglect to monitor enemies' threats although they are not in a position to open a third front against Iran.”
Pourdastan referred to the Iranian Army as a “powerful arm and firm stronghold” with a “high capacity to defend the country and crush the enemy in the air and sea and on the ground."
Stressing that Iran’s Army was acting “shoulder to shoulder” with the country’s Revolutionary Guards Corps and Basij (Volunteer) Forces, the commander said, “Iran’s armed forces would crush any threats which is to be put into practice.”
Iranians are celebrating the National Army Day with holding ceremonies nationwide.
An official ceremony was started in southern Tehran Sunday morning in the presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The ceremony is being held at the Mausoleum of the Founder of the Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini.
A number of top military and political officials as well as foreign diplomats are also present in the event.
Different Army units are to parade during the ceremony to demonstrate their combat power, military strength and latest achievements.
The event is covered by scores of domestic and foreign reporters, correspondents, photographers and camerapersons.
