Disarmament confab focuses on full implementation of NPT: speaker
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, April 18, IRNA -- Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Sunday that while the US nuclear conference tried to deny the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the Tehran meeting is to fully implement the NPT.
Addressing the Majlis open session this morning, the speaker appreciated the Iranian government's initiative to hold the 1st International Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation which started work Saturday morning.
Referring to the inaugural address of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, he said the message indicated the strong will of the Islamic Republic in its struggle against weapons of mass destruction.
Not only the message of the recent US nuclear meeting did not back disarmament, but also it encouraged states to make use of nuclear weapons impudently, he added.
Although the Zionist regime ignored all international treaties and had been interested in development of nuclear weapons, Washington has always supported that criminal regime, Larijani reiterated.
Condemning the latest Zionists crimes in the occupied Palestinian lands, he regretted that some 100,000 Palestinians were forced to leave the West Bank in the past few days.
He called on the Arab states not to be indifferent towards such crimes by the usurper regime of Israel.
By supporting the compromise talks, the Arab states not only do not assist the Palestinian nation but also they humiliate them.
The Iranian speaker said the Islamic Consultative Assembly condemns such atrocities and believes that the Zionists are committing crimes against the Islamic identity of the Palestinians.
He called on the Islamic bodies to defend the rights of the Palestinian nation.
Denouncing the recent allegations made by one of the Western leaders in support for the Zionists attack against Iran, Larijani urged the Tel Aviv regime to take lessons from the history.
He added that the Iranian nation has not forgotten close cooperation between the Zionists and the Saddam regime during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war against the country.
