Mottaki: Those whose power is centralized on A-bombs play with fire

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, April 13, IRNA -- IRI foreign minister said in a meeting with new ambassador of Turkey to Tehran those who have unwisely based their power on nuclear weapons are playing with fire.

According to IRNA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Information and Media Head Office reported Monday night Mottaki as saying in talks with Ambassador Emit Yardim that Tehran-Ankara relations are both very vast and quite strong, adding, “The two countries’ presidents and officials consider each country’s security as their own security.”

Mottaki said, “Iran and Turkey have shared concerns in the region and at the international scene and therefore, Tehran and Ankara are in need of constant consultations at various levels.”

The Iranian top diplomat referring to the holding of the International Disarmament Conference in Tehran and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy of working to establish a nuclear weapons free region in Middle East, added, “Iran, Turkey and the rest of the opponents of nuclear weapons can cooperate in drafting the international convention for demolishing the world nuclear weapons.”

He added, “The nuclear weapon has been used once in the world in Hiroshima and Nagasaki resulting in victimizing hundreds of thousands of innocent people.”

Pointing out that the nuclear weapons should never be categorized as defense weapons, Mottaki emphasized, “Those who unwisely base their power over nuclear weapons are playing with fire as if they would resort to using them nothing would be left to need defense,” adding, “The A-bombs are absolutely of no use, save for huge scale destruction and annihilation.”

The Iranian top diplomat meanwhile referring to the recent remarks made by the US President Barack Obama said, “Such remarks are hazardous for the international community and they would not yield to the realities unless we and the other countries would seriously pursue insistence on the need for the global nuclear disarmament and the need for its comprehensive implementation.”

Ambassador Emit Yardim, too, during the meeting referring to the importance of Iran and Turkey both in the region and in the world expressed hope that during the course of his mission in Tehran the two countries’ relations would expand more than ever before.

The New political representative of Ankara to Tehran during the meeting also presented a copy of his credentials to Mottaki.

The two sides meanwhile surveyed the bilateral ties, regional and international developments in their first meeting and exchanged viewpoints.
