Soltanieh: Iran defined its principles to IAEA Board of Governors
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Vienna, March 6, IRNA -- Iran's Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency Ali Asghar Soltanieh said on Saturday that Iran has explicitly defined its principles to IAEA Board of Governors.
He told IRNA that in the meeting of Board of Governors, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) also backed Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
IAEA Board of Governor kicked off its seasonal session on last Monday and concluded working on Thursday.
NAM issued a statement to back Iran’s stance and sharply criticized the report issued by IAEA director general on Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, he said.
Iran has lodged a protest for leakage of classified information by IAEA and called on specific groups to study the case, he pointed out.
On Iranian demand to IAEA for 20 percent enriched fuel necessary for Tehran medical research reactor and refusal of the Western suppliers to provide Iran with the fuel, he said that it is legitimate right of every nation to independently produce fuel in line with Non-Proliferation Treaty and that there is no binding international document to the contrary.
According to IAEA Charter and NPT, it is not possible to deprive any country of enrichment process and it is legitimate right of every member state to provide its required fuel from world market or produce it, said the Iranian envoy.
Iran truly reflected its principles to the Board of Governors and the international community were aware of the fact that they have brought baseless accusations against Iran, he said underlining that over 100 countries of the world confirmed that Iran has exercised comprehensive cooperation with IAEA and the country’s nuclear activities are under supervision of the UN nuclear agency.
Iran along with NAM strongly criticized the double standard polices of the US, Europe and Japan for ignoring to issue a statement to condemn the Zionist attack on Syria, he said.
He said that it is quire shameful that they simply ignore international principles
and rule of law.
“We have underlined that the Zionist regime has perpetrated lots of violations of Non-Proliferation Treaty, is posing threats or attacking nuclear facilities of the sovereign states in the Middle East and they issued a resolution against the Zionist entity in 1980s based on which the fabricated regime was deprived of guidance and expertise the IAEA provides for the member states,” he said.
He said that based on resolution issued in 1990 upon Iran’s request, any threat or attacks on nuclear sites were unanimously condemned by the member states.
Soltanieh said that the International community condemns the aggressions and violations of intentional law by the Zionist regime and the statement made by Iran and the NAM were registered as documents of the IAEA Board of Governors.
