US fails in its attempt to orchestrate anti-Iran consensus

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, March 6, IRNA -- Chairman of Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Saturday that the Chinese and Russian objection to a new series of sanctions on Iran indicates the US failure to orchestrate an anti-Iran consensus.

Talking to IRNA, he said that several non-permanent members of the Security Council have also made objection to the US move.

“The US senior officials, especially the secretary of state, visited many countries to win their support for an anti-Iran consensus,” he said, adding that their efforts in this respect were in vain.

The lawmaker said that more than 100 Non-Aligned Movemnet member states expressed their protest over the US stance vis-à-vis Iran, despite the fact that IAEA director general, Yukiya Amano, has an attitude similar to that of the US.

He further noted that since the governing board has not issued any resolution against Iran, given international norms, there is no ground for the Security Council to issue resolution.

Two decades passes since the start of the sanctions but they were ineffective, Boroujerdi said.

"The sanctions prompted the Iranians achieve various successes in different fields such nuclear energy and missile capabilities."

Renewed sanction against Iran is repetition of the past mistakes, he added.
