Leader blames negligence of certain figures for bitter events

Tehran, Feb 2, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday that negligence on part of certain figures caused bitter events in recent months.
The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with a group of university professors and lecturers from Tehran University.
The Supreme leader said that sometime negligence and any move with lack of trust in political arena might account for treason.
Elsewhere in his speech, the Supreme Leader pointed to the progress Iranian nation has made in science and technology and said that science is the milestone for real development and the country’s strength.
"The country is determined to swiftly go ahead with progress in science and technology."
Congratulating the audience on 31st anniversary victory of Islamic Revolution, the Supreme Leader said Islamic Iran is steadfast to resolve the people's problems based on Koranic and Islamic teachings.
The Supreme Leader expressed dissatisfaction with the country’s development in the past three decades and said that there is a long distance to attain the climax of science and development which requires hard works and endeavors of the students, intellectuals as well as university figures.
To attain such scientific climax it is vital to have a program for the upcoming 50 years, underlined the Supreme Leader.
"Iran is the target of global propaganda campaign as the country is determined to fight with modern injustice in the world."
The Supreme Leader said that universities are home to politics so ignorance of the fact will help the enemy misuse them.
The Supreme Leader pointed to bitter events which took place in the country over the past several months and said that the bitter events have roots in negligence of certain figures who should keep in mind that any move in absence of trust on their part would result in adverse consequences accounted for treason.
The Supreme Leader thanked the dean of Tehran University for presenting honorary Ph.D. which was not accepted by the Supreme Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that he wishes to remain committed to the principles of cleric lifestyle.
Minister of Science, Research and Technology Kamran Daneshjou along with some other university lecturers briefed the Supreme Leader of the activities of universities.
