Iran defense capability belongs to entire regional states: Minister

Tehran, Jan 19, IRNA -- Defense minister said Tuesday that Iran’s defense capability is for deterrent purpose and Iran is ready to share its experience in this field with all the regional states.

Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi made the remarks while addressing the 19th Conference on Persian Gulf on the theme of Challenges and Regional Mechanisms.

He dismissed propaganda against Iran’s defense capability and said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to hold talks on defense with the neighboring states.

Vahidi said that Iranian defense capability will never pose a threat to the region.

He also maintained that Iran’s nuclear program does not pose threat to the Middle East either.

During his speech, the Iranian defense minister expressed readiness to share experience in nuclear technology with the regional countries.

Vahidi added both West and US are trying to sabotage relations of the regional states with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

They aim to spread Iranophobia in order to exert control over the Middle East region, the minister said.

He said that the US and the West plans to bring so-called stability and peace to the region have failed.

"Instead, those plans brought terrorists and instability to the region," he said citing the example of Iraq.

Despite facing terrorism and aggression, the Islamic Republic of Iran observed kept self-straint in order to ensure regional stability.

Referring to British sailors who had been arrested for entering Iranian waters illegally months ago, Vahidi said the country’s officials decided to free them with kindness, which showed that Iran is seeking regional tranquility.

Vahidi noted Iran pursues political talks and civilian strategies for solving regional problems.

Iran believes that the region would be a good place for progress and economic development in line with of regional interests, the Iranian minister added.

Later, he said the visit of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the regional states was great strides to melt down the ice for developing regional cooperation.
