MOSCOW, January 12 (RIA Novosti) - An Iranian nuclear physics scientist and "a staunch supporter" of the Islamic revolution has been killed in a blast near his home in northern Tehran, Iranian and regional media reported on Tuesday.

According to a Press TV report, a remote-controlled explosive device attached to a motorbike was detonated near Dr. Massoud Ali-Mohammadi's home in the Qeytariyeh neighborhood. The FARS news agency said, however, the explosive device was planted in a garbage container.

Al Jazeera said Mohammadi, a lecturer at the Tehran University, might have had links to Iran's disputed nuclear program.

"Authorities who decided to remain unnamed tell me that Mohammadi had some connections with Iran's nuclear program and this could be related," Press TV's reporter in Tehran said.

The equipment and system of the bomb used in the attack indicated that "a number of foreign intelligence agencies, particularly Israel's Mossad" might be related to the blast, Press TV said, citing unnamed security officials.

Tehran's Prosecutor Abbas Jafari-Dolatabadi told the ISNA news agency that no arrests had been made so far.
