IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Jan 3, IRNA -- The Iranian Parliament (Majlis) rejected a request by the government to withdraw the bill on the targeted subsidies.
The request was rejected with only two votes in favor of the opponents.
In the Parliament’s Sunday morning session, 111 parliamentarians opposed the government’s demand while 120 voted in favor of it and 7 representatives abstained.
243 representatives were present in today’s session.
The government submitted its request to withdraw the targeted subsidies bill to the Parliament this morning.
Vice-President for Parliamentary Affairs Mohammad-Reza Mirtajeddini said the government made the request because it believed what was ratified by the Majlis would not help the cabinet materialize its objectives of carrying out the targeted subsidies program.
