Damascus, Dec 9, IRNA -- Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said boosting defense ties with Syria will deter the threats posed by the Zionist regime against regional nations.
He made the remarks during the first round of talks with his Syrian counterpart Ali Mohammad Habib Mahmoud which took place within the framework of the joint high defense commission between the two countries.
He described Iran and Syria as two strategic allies that worked for establishment of peace and stability in the region.
He said Tehran and Damascus played a major role in emergence of a new pole of power in the present world which aimed at providing independence and freedom and safeguarding the interests of nations.
Voicing Iran’s readiness to further boost defense ties with Syria, he said Iran regarded defending Syria as defending its own territories and noted that the existing ties between the two countries could serve as a proper role-model for other regional countries.
Vahidi arrived in Damascus Tuesday evening for a three-day visit.
