Mottaki advises German foreign minister to study context of NPT

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Dec 3, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Thursday advised his German counterpart to study context of Non-Proliferation Treaty to get acquainted with the rights and duties of the member states.

Mottaki made the remarks in response to allegations made by German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle against Iranian nuclear program, calling for tougher economic sanctions.

Perceptions such as threats or sanctions do not work in the era of enlightening and aware conscience, Mottaki said.

“We gently advise the German foreign minister to study context of the NPT to become aware of the rights and responsibilities of its guardians as well as members of IAEA board of directors.” Mottaki said.

“If others try to make hurdles on scientific or technological achievements of Germany through illegal pretexts, what would be the reaction of the German people along with their leaders?,” Asked Mottaki.

Given the status of German people among Iranians, he said “We expect the German officials to make decision based on the interests of their own people through adopting rationality and far-sightedness in their foreign policy.”

German officials should not let others influence their policy-making procedure, underlined the Iranian foreign minister.
