Majlis urges gov to speedily offer plan on reducing ties with IAEA

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 29, IRNA -- The Iranian Parliament on Sunday urged the government to speedily offer plans to downgrade ties with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In a statement issued in the morning session of the Parliament, the representatives asked the government to work out a plan to lower the level of future cooperation with the IAEA as a reaction to the hostile attitudes recently adopted by the 5+1 group regarding Iran.

226 Parliament members signed the statement which described the resolution adopted by the IAEA as a politically-motivated move short of a consensus that was issued ignoring the fact that the outgoing IAEA chief, Mohamed ElBaradei, had for the 21th time stressed the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities.

The statement stressed that the political will of certain big powers specially the US and Britain was the driving force behind the moves resulting in deviation of Iran’s nuclear dossier from its normal path.

It said while the US President, Barack Obama, boasted of changes in the US diplomacy, he not only failed to initiate any such changes but also had to change his own tone to continue the extreme policies adopted by his predecessor.

The Iranian parliamentarians further demanded the IAEA to refrain from adopting and following double-standard and dual-standard policies to prevent the international organization from suffering big blows to its credibility.
