Iran Warns IAEA Against Threats Ahead Of Vote

November 27, 2009

The Iranian envoy to the UN nuclear monitoring agency has warned the agency not to use threats against Iran.

The official IRNA news agency quoted Ali-Asghar Soltanieh as saying that the International Atomic Energy Agency should use "the language of logic rather than force."

The IAEA's 35-member Board of Governors meeting in Vienna is expected to vote today on a resolution that would censure Iran for the first time in four years.

The draft resolution has been introduced by six world powers -- the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany -- which have been involved in negations with Iran over its controversial nuclear program.

The resolution reportedly calls on Iran to halt construction on a recently declared enrichment plant.

Iran has defied previous UN demands to suspend uranium enrichment.
