Tehran says IAEA's anti-Iran resolution aims at piling up pressure
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Nov 27, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast here Friday denounced the IAEA Board’s Friday resolution against Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and said it is aimed to pile up pressure on the Islamic Republic.
“The Board of Governors’ resolution, passed against our country’s peaceful nuclear program despite opposition of the NAM members, is a formal, showy and purposeful gesture, aimed at exerting pressure on the Islamic Republic. Such behaviors are vain,” said Mehmanparast.
He said under conditions when nature of nuclear program of Iran, as a committed member of the Agency, has repeatedly been verified and it has been proved and testified by the Agency inspectors that it is not diverted to military purposes, the resolution provides a stage for the independent and non-aligned states to test themselves that how much sensitive they are in securing their rights.”
He added, “If basic rights of Iran, as an NPT signatory, are not guaranteed based on the IAEA Safeguards, we will see no reason to implement extra commitments vis-à-vis the IAEA. Iran will however continue to be the IAEA member.”
