Russia rejects US expert claim on Moscow-Tehran relation

Moscow, Nov 25, IRNA -- Russia Foreign Ministry, by issuing a statement on Tuesday evening, rejected a US expert claim on Moscow nuclear military assistance to Tehran and said the issue is baseless.

The statement continued that Russia and Iran cooperation is in the framework of limitations dictated by the UN Security Council resolutions.

A US expert, who is a member of disarmament committee, claimed that Russia is helping Iran to advance its nuclear program.

Russian Foreign Ministry called the claim incorrect and said in this concern only report of International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA) about Iran's nuclear activities should be recognized and considered.

It said that Russia is a member of Non-Proliferation Treaty ( NPT) and is totally committed to its obligations concerning prevention of production of mass destruction weapons in the world.

The IAEA in its latest report in November 16, 2009 underlined that there is no military nature in Iran’s nuclear activities.

It said that Moscow is only involved in construction of Bushehr Power Plant and has no participation in construction of Iran’s other nuclear centers.
