Read-out of President Obama’s Call with Russian President Medvedev

President Obama called President Medvedev on the morning of October 24, 2009. President Obama thanked President Medvedev for Russia’s leadership in developing the IAEA proposal that responds to Iran’s request for fuel for the Tehran Research Reactor. President Obama and President Medvedev affirmed their full support for this agreement and discussed the importance of all parties accepting the proposal so that implementation can begin as soon as possible. In the P5+1 framework, both Presidents also underscored the need to maintain Russian and American unity in pursuing our mutual concerns about Iran’s nuclear program.

President Obama and President Medvedev also discussed other bilateral issues on which the United States and Russia are cooperating, including continued work to finish a new START treaty by the end of the year.
