Political gatherings banned before election results are announced

Tehran, June 12, IRNA -- Elections Headquarters said on Friday that no gathering by political groups and supporters of candidates will be allowed until the final results are announced.

The Headquarters, in its 13th announcement, said, "Respected compatriots are informed that any gathering by political wings and supporters of the candidates will be banned until elections results are announced. Also, after the announcement of the outcome, public gatherings would require the authorization of the governor's office."

Polling began nationwide and abroad at 08:00 hours local time (0330 GMT) Friday to elect the country's president.

Four candidates, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Mir-Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi and Mohsen Rezaie, are in the fray for election as Iran's 10th president.
