Karroubi: I am capable of ruling the country

Qom, June 11, IRNA – 10th President Elections hopeful Hojjatoleslam Mehdi Karroubi said here Wednesday night, “I am a manager who is capable of ruling the country and blocking the path for infiltration of the enemy.”
According to IRNA correspondent in Qom, Karroubi who was speaking for a group of his supporters at Imam Hassan Asgari (P) Mosque of the city, added, “I have proved this point in the past and if I have made any mistakes, I am not so haughty not to tell the people that I am sorry.”
Pointing out that some people believe we should try to reform the entire world, he said, “If we are very crafty, we should work for our won country and if I would win the Presidential Election I would not compromise over Iran’s interests with other countries.”
The Secretary General of Ea’temad-e-Melli (National Trust) Party referring to the people’s right to choose, reiterated, “The gentlemen should permit the people to choose freely, refrain from imposing pressure over them, and not to send them money orders (to buy votes), because that is contrary to the viewpoints of the late founder of the Islamic Republic.”
Karroubi added, “I said in one of my TV debates (with President Ahmadinejad), if dozens of foreign countries have requested Iran to send them our management pattern (as you claim), just name a few of them, but that man did not do so.”
He said, “He is not to be blamed, since those should be blamed that when he used to say nonsensical things they used to defend him!”
Karroubi said that the late Imam Khomeini (P) used to say that the people’s affairs should be trusted in their own hands, adding, “He also believed that the people have the right to elect freely and never urged them to choose any certain candidates, but under the current conditions some people load the people into the busses and urge them to participate at the elections in their own favor.”
Pointing out that even in that case the final choosers are the people, Karroubi said, “In accordance with the Constitution, the president is the one that is elected directly by the people.”
He added, “The people’s votes are the index and those who have no votes among the people try to collect votes by cheating some religious individuals.”
The Presidential Elections hopeful added, “Islam is the religion of greatness and kindness, but it is not indifferent towards aggressions and those who intend to impose even Islam against the people act against the Islamic rule.”
Karroubi said that Qom has a high status in Islamic world, adding, “Qom is a religious center where Islamic teachings are taught and here is the place to teach some people not to say things that are quite contrary to Islamic teachings.”
He added, “Is it possible that the president would speak about a hallow of light in the presence of a source of jurisprudence and not feel ashamed of himself? But today when the foreign reporters ask me about the matter I feel humiliated and refrain from replying to them.”
Karroubi added, “This world is not worthy of telling lies in order to hang to it a couple of more longer. That is a big shame and goof off it is for us and I am sure the people would never forget such events in the future either.”
He added, “It is deceiving the public opinion that someone would claim they wanted to kidnap me abroad and the people, too, would applaud him, not knowing that it is a lie, since such events occur entirely because we did not oppose them from the very beginning and permitted them to say whatever they wished to say them.”
Karroubi emphasized, “I am not going to speak about the economic affairs, since today the entire nation know the status of our economy and comprehend it very well.”
