Solana, Jalili talk on phone about Iran response to G5+1

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, April 23, IRNA – The European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Javier Solana discussed Tehran's latest response to the Group 5+1 statement in a telephone contact with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili on Wednesday.

Noting that Tehran's response to the G5+1 contained “constructive” points, Solana told Jalili that the statement created a new chance to push forward the two sides talks on Iran's nuclear issue.

Meanwhile, Jalili said referred to Iran's four-article statement as an "appropriate approach" for discussing Iran's peaceful nuclear issue in a “fair atmosphere based on mutual respect.”

In the statement which was released on Wednesday, Iran said it would welcome any constructive interaction with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the nuclear activities.

The statement said that Tehran would present a new version of its previous package of proposals to the UN Security Council's permanent members Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States plus Germany which are involved in the nuclear talks with Iran.

According to the statement, Iran's new package of proposals would be an "up-to-dated" version of the previous package which was presented to the G5+1 in 2008 and would include issues related to international problems.

The statement also reiterated that Iran would continue its peaceful nuclear activities based on the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
