Soltanieh: UNSC may remove Iran's nuclear case from its agenda

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Beijing, April 21, IRNA – An Iranian diplomat said here Tuesday that the UN Security Council may remove Iran’s nuclear case from its agenda soon.

“Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mohamed ElBaradei hopes Iran’s nuclear case will be removed from the Security Council’s agenda before the end of his tenure,” Iranian Ambassador to the IAEA Ali-Asghar Soltanieh said.

Soltanieh, who was in Beijing to attend the International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy in the 21st Century, was speaking before his departure for Geneva.

He added that in his remarks Monday, ElBaradei expressed optimism about end of dispute over Iran’s nuclear case.

The Iranian diplomat said the UN nuclear watchdog chief has reached a conclusion that political motivation led to the crisis in the nuclear row.

He pointed to IAEA's numerous inspection of Iran’s nuclear facilities and expressed hope that a change in the political atmosphere will prepare ground for settlement of Iran’s nuclear case.

Soltanieh said the Beijing conference was held under circumstances that the IAEA has been diverted from its right path in a poisonous political atmosphere.

Participants at the conference emphasized that the IAEA can connect countries which seek to make progress in the nuclear field, he added.

The envoy hoped that the UN nuclear watchdog would take major steps towards fulfilling its responsibilities.
