Int'l confab on nuclear energy kicked off in Beijing

Beijing, April 20, IRNA – The International Conference on Energy in the 21st Century, attended by 30 energy ministers and representatives from 65 world countries including Iran, opened here in the Chinese capital on Monday.

The three-day conference is organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to discuss future of the nuclear power throughout the globe.

The Iranian team composed of Deputy for Planning and International Affairs at the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Mohammad Saeedi, AEOI’s Deputy for power plants Ahmad Fayaz-Bakhsh and Iran’s Ambassador to IAEA Ali- Asghar Soltaniyeh arrived in Beijing on Sunday.

Saeedi who heads the Iranian delegation is to deliver a speech on Iran’s nuclear program in the long run on Monday.

A number of top nuclear officials including IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei are attending the event.

Meanwhile several specialized committees on sources of energy and environment, nuclear energy and its prospects in the future, and creation of development infrastructures are to be formed on the sidelines of the confab.

Experts and representatives from Iran, US, India, Germany, France, Nigeria, Chile, Jordan, Syria, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Argentina and several other states are present in the gathering.

An exhibition on nuclear electricity is also to be held on the sidelines of the conference.
