Iran among producers of radar evading aircraft: Air Force Commander

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Shahr-e Ray, Tehran Prov, April 18, IRNA -- Iran is among a few countries able to produce radar-evading aircraft, the Army’s Air Force Commander Brigadier General Hassan Shah-Safi said on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the National Army Day ceremony, the commander said there are only four or five states in the world which possessed the technology needed for production of radar-evading aircraft.

“Even some of the big military powers have no such technology,” Shah-Safi said.

He added that a squadron of the domestically-made Sa’eqeh (Thunder) and Azarakhsh (Lightning) fighters were supposed to fly today on the occasion of the National Army Day but they could not do so due to bad weather conditions.

The commander promised that the planes would fly on two upcoming occasions upon the permission of top military officials.

The two occassions are the May 24 which is the day when Iranian troops succeeded, during the eight years of the Iraqi imposed war against Iran, to liberate the southern city of Khoramshahr from the Iraqi occupation in 1982 and the second occasion is the Sacred Defense Week in September.

Stressing that Iran was pursuing a defensive policy, Shah-Safi said that the country was using its defensive capability as a deterrent power.
