Peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program has been proved: official
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, April 13, IRNA - Deputy Head of Iran Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) Mohammad Saeedi said on Monday that all nations are confident that Tehran is pursuing nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
Talking to IRNA, he added that Iran has imported some 80 tons of nuclear fuel from Russia for Bushehr nuclear power plant. Due to Iran’s need for nuclear fuel, the process of fuel production will continue inside the country, he added.
He expressed hope that the country’s latest nuclear achievements would remove all the existing concern in certain western states and pave the way for the West to sit at the negotiating table with Iran to settle the remaining issues peacefully.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, through its access to complete nuclear fuel cycle, has currently the capability to provide fuel for the nuclear power plants, Saeedi added.
The Islamic Republic will be able to provide fuel for nuclear reactors in order to generate electricity in the near future, he said, adding that only few world countries have such a capability.
He reiterated that Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities are under direct supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Iran’s nuclear program is within the framework of international rules and regulations, Saeedi said, stressing that Tehran has voluntarily followed up articles of the Non-Proliferation Treaty in order to assure the world of the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.
