Iranian parliament reviews US interest to mend ties with Iran

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, April 8, IRNA -- An Iranian Parliament commission on Tuesday reviewed different aspects of the US willingness to restore ties with Iran.

Member of parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mohammad Karami Rad said the members of the commission focused on the interest the US was showing in restoring ties with Iran and examined different aspects of the issue.

He said the commission finally decided that the whole issue could be considered only after the Americans proved their sincerity in practice by stopping interfering in Iran’s internal affairs and apologizing to Iranian nation for the support the US rendered to the Iraqi invasion of Iran in 1980 and also for shooting down Iranian passenger plane over the Persian Gulf in 1988.

He also noted that removal of the US sanctions on Iran and releasing Iranian assets frozen in the US were other conditions set by Iran for initiation of talks between Tehran and Washington to mend ties.

Karami Rad said that Iran will act according to the degree of the goodwill it sees on the part of US politicians.

According to the parliamentarian, the commission also examined the bill of targeted subsides scheme, reforming consumption patterns in the country and ties with the United Arab Emirates.
