MP: No meeting between Iranian, US officials

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, April 6, IRNA - The first vice-chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said on Monday the Iranian and the US officials have not held any meeting in The Hague on March 31.

Esmail Kosari told IRNA refuted as just rumors any meeting between Iranian and the US diplomats or exchange of any letter between them.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Mohammad-Mehdi Akhoundzadeh was one of the Iranian envoys to the Hague meeting who has reported no such a meeting, the Member of Parliament said.

He added a meeting between the Iranian and US officials was not on the agenda of Iran’s Foreign Ministry.

Akhoundzadeh held talks only with the foreign ministers of Italy, Norway and Australia on the sidelines of The Hague meeting.

Referring to the recent International Conference on Afghanistan, Kosari said Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan are to hold a tripartite meeting in near future.

Besides, he said the meeting will focus on reviewing ways to ensure a stable Afghanistan.

About Iran’s diplomat Heshmatollah Attarzadeh Niyaki kidnapped in Pakistan in late 2008, the parliamentarian said the case is being followed up.
