Rosatom chief: Bushehr NPP is peaceful

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Moscow, April 2, IRNA - The head of Russia’s state-run nuclear holding company Rosatom, Sergey Kiriyenko, said Thursday the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant of Iran is a peaceful nuclear center as the global community and the International Atomic Energy Agency are aware of.

Kiriyenko told `Russia Today’ English TV that Iran can fully prove the "merely peaceful" nature of the Bushehr Nuclear Power plant.

He said the power plant has been built under the IAEA guarantees and the Agency’s inspectors are constantly present there.

He added that there is no problem on the way of constructing and accomplishing the NPP project.

He noted that operations for construction of the Bushehr NPP will end and it will be operational by end of 2009.

According to the Rosatom head, Russian experts can be proud of the outcome of their work in the Bushehr NPP through their Iranian colleagues’ cooperation and partnership.

He stressed that based on the agreement, Russian experts will be present in the power plant and work and serve there in the first year of its operation.

He said based on Iran’s proposal a common institution will be established to undertake management of the power plant so that the Russian experts could gradually be substituted.
