Good nuclear news to be announced

Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA - Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Reza Aqazadeh sadi here Wednesday that Iran has reached its due status in the field of nuclear energy and good news will be announced on April 9, 2009.

Commenting on the date for commissioning of Bushehr power plant, he said at a joint pres conference with the chief of the Russia’s state nuclear company Rosatom, Sergei Kiriyenko that concerns in this respect have completely been removed and it will come on stream after undergoing certain tests.

Stating that in the past necessary equipment was not made available to the project due to certain issues such as sanctions, Aqazadeh added a large section of the equipment has been procured and installed.

Naturally, conducting the tests will take time, he noted.

Referring to a ratification by Majlis assigning the government to produce 20,000 megawatts of electricity from nuclear energy within the prospects of Vision Plan, the official said, “The first step we have taken is to commission Darkhowin project, which has made a 60 percent physical progress.”

Given the country’s political atmosphere and decline in foreign pressures, Iran will receive many proposals in future, he said, adding, “We are prepared to conclude more agreements with others countries.”
