IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA – The reactor in the Bushehr nuclear power plant was inaugurated for test operations using virtual fuel packages Wednesday afternoon.
The opening comes after the installation of all required parts in different sections of the power plant successfully completed.
The “test-inauguration” operations started about ten days ago with the installation of virtual fuel bars, carrying out the hydraulics tests as well as the other necessary examinations and controlling processes.
Head of Iran’s National Atomic Energy Reza Aqazadeh and visiting head of Russia’s State Nuclear Company Rosatom Sergei Kiriyenko earlier inspected different parts of the power plant. The inspection happened as experts stress that the test-opening of the power plant virtually started ten days ago and the power plant had been practically in the operating phase since then.
Addressing reporters, Aqazadeh stressed that the final completion of the project faced no real obstacles and said power plant will start its full electricity-generating operation soon.
The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant has the capacity of producing one thousand mega watts of electricity and its reactor uses light water. The plant is located 15 kilometers south of the port city of Bushehr and its building started in 1974 by a German company but it did not continue the work after the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979. A Russian Company named "Atomstroyexport" signed a contract to complete the project in 1995.
