Bushehr power plant will soon become operational: official

Tehran, Feb 25, IRNA – Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency Reza Aqazadeh said on Wednesday that there is no obstacle on the way of putting into operation of the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

He made the remarks before he begins his negotiatons with visiting head of Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Corporation Sergei Kiriyenko.

He reiterated that the Bushehr power plant will soon become operational.

Aqazadeh added that during his inspection tour of the power plant he had asked all Russian and Iranian experts if there were any problem in putting into operation of the plant. He said they all assured him that there was no obstacle on the way of operating the plant.

Appreciating great efforts made by the Russian side in completion of the power plant, he expressed his satisfaction over the construction process of the plant in the recent months.

The Bushehr power plant is the first of its kind in the world, he said, adding that the power plant enjoys very high quality.

The construction work of the Bushehr power plant started in 1974 by a German company but it did not continue the work after the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran. A Russian company named Atomstroyexport signed a contract to complete the project in 1995.
