MP: Majlis not to endorse NPT additional protocol
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Feb 22, IRNA - Chairman of the Majlis Foreign Policy and National Security Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Sunday that as long as Iran’s nuclear dossier is kept at UNSC, the Iranian Majlis will not sign additional protocol to NPT.
Speaking to IRNA, he said in the latest report released by the IAEA Chief Mohamed ElBaradei, it has been verified that Iran has not deviated from IAEA rules.
The new report underlined that Iran has not suspended its uranium enrichment in defiance of previous UNSC resolutions to this effect, he said.
IAEA could verify non-diversion of Iran’s nuclear activities but failed to do so, he said.
To verify non-diversion of Iran’s nuclear activities, ElBaradei has set a precondition to urge the country to accept additional protocol to NPT, questioned a reporter. Boroujerdi said even if the government wants to implement additional protocol to NPT, the Majlis is against the move.
as long as Iran’s peaceful nuclear dossier is kept at the UNSC, the Iranian Majlis will not let the government make such a decision, he underlined.
Talks on signing additional protocol to NPT is out of question under the current circumstances, Boroujerdi underlined.
He expressed the hope that the new US president has taken enough lessons from mistakes made by former president Bush and would leave the door open for the new changes in US policies in the region.
