Cleric says Iran-G5+1 talks fruitful if held in fair atmosphere

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, July 18, IRNA
Iran-Prayers-Khatami
Substitute Friday prayers leader of Tehran Ahmad Khatami said here Friday that the Iran-G5+1 talks will be fruitful if are held in a fair atmosphere coupled with goodwill.

"We have since the beginning been supporting the talks which will be free of any precondition and threat and we believe that if (the Iran-G5+1) talks are held in a fair atmosphere coupled with goodwill, they can lead to a result," said Ayatollah Khatami in his second Friday prayers sermon in Tehran University campus.

The Experts Assembly member reiterated that if the G5+1 party holds talks in an atmosphere of threat and excuse under influence of Zionists and of certain powers, that round of the talks too will become futile.

He said the world today understands well that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful in nature because it was proved during all their inspections that there is no diversion in the country's nuclear programs.

"Today it is fully evident that certain people are seeking excuses and intend to prolong our country's nuclear case as much as possible.

After the nuclear issue, they plan to raise human rights issue and afterwards they will possibly go for the animals' rights!" He said enemies of the Islamic Revolution want to harm core of the Islamic Republic system by seeking different excuses but contrary to their wishes, Islamic Iran gets further consolidated day by day and continues to survive.

He added that Iranian nation has over the past three decades proved that it stands to the last drop of its blood and breath for the sake of its aspirations.

"We announce explicitly ... that if enemy launches the least invasion on Iran, Iranian nation will with full strength and power resist it. In that case, we will determine the scope of defense. You should also know that in case of invasion, the great Iranian nation will slap the enemy in the face to the extent that no body will think of attacking Islamic Iran," he said.

He went on to say that the Third Great Prophet Missile Wargame showcased only a small portion of the country's defensive power.

"What Iranian nation and the world people observed in the Third Great Prophet Missile Maneuver was only a small portion of the Islamic Republic's defensive power which was put on show. Our armed forces are in highest level of combat readiness today. We are capable of defending ourselves in all sectors and fields. At the same time, we believe that talks and dialogue are the best means for mutual agreement," he said.

He refuted claims that two kinds of decisions are made in Iran in nuclear case and said the Supreme National Security Council, headed by the president and comprised of the leadership envoys and representatives of the three branches of government, is in charge of making decisions on the country's nuclear issue.

"Any decision made by the Council is consented by all. No doubt there is consensus over the issue too and enemy plots will be futile."

Somewhere in his sermon, Ayatollah Khatami hailed Lebanese Hizbollah victory which involved freedom of Lebanese captives from Israeli jails.

"Freedom of Lebanese hostages from clutches of the Zionist Regime was another golden page in history of Hizbollah and marked another defeat by the Zionist Regime. Lebanese Hizbollah has gained success not only in the military but also in the political scene." As for the Iraq-US security pact, Ayatollah Khatami said fortunately, the humiliating deal which the US tried to impose on Iraqis has been removed from agenda and that's a big victory for the Iraqi nation.

"Iraqi government and nation should make sure that enemies will no longer dictate their wishes on Iraq within framework of another plan," he concluded.
