A senior Foreign Ministry official on Tuesday harshly criticized the European Union's 'illogical' stance on Iran.
"When we were studying the West's proposed package, an illogical decision was made by the European Union," Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific Affairs Mohammad-Ali Hosseini told visiting South Korean deputy foreign minister here on Tuesday.
Hosseini said that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the ninth government give priority to working with the Asian and eastern states in view of the cultural commonalities shared among them.
He said that Iran and South Korea can cooperate in commercial, economic, cultural, social and parliamentary fields because they provide a suitable ground for increasing trade as well as exchange of visits.
On Iran's nuclear issue, Hosseini said, "In that connection, the Islamic Republic of Iran seeks nothing over and above its legal demand and only wants its rights within the framework of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty."
He said that the IAEA statement that the findings of inspections conform with IAEA regulations shows the falsehood of allegations raised against Iran.
On the packages exchanged between Iran and the West, Hosseini said, "We announced that the packages have common points, which can serve as a ground for mutual talks. But when we were studying the West's package, an illogical stance was taken by the European Union." The South Korean official for his part said that Iranian and South Korean nations are interested in each other as is evident by the warm welcome for Iran's cultural exhibition in Seoul.
He said that Iran is a country which has a key role in maintaining balance in the Middle East.
He said that Iran-South Korea Economic Commission can prepare the ground for more transactions and investment.
He hoped that Iran's nuclear issue will be solved peacefully.
